About the Farmers
A Dream That Took Root
Adam and Carrie first met while attending UW-Platteville and shared a dream of starting their own farm. Today, that dream has grown into a thriving operation. Married in 1999, Adam and Carrie are raising three children—Mikayla, Tristan, and Taylor—who are all active on the farm and excited to carry on the family tradition. Adam treasures memories of farming and enjoys seeing his kids share those same experiences.
In 2012, Adam and Carrie partnered with Adam’s grandfather to bring 500 acres of fallowed land back into production, focusing on organic crops. Today, they farm nearly 1,050 acres organically, growing peas, beans, sweet corn, alfalfa, and more.
Adam oversees soil fertility and daily operations across the entire farm. At the same time, Carrie’s passion for hydroponics, sparked during an internship at Disney’s Epcot, continues to guide their innovative approach to growing.
Planted with Purpose
They now farm 4,100 acres, manage five greenhouses, and raise 700 steers yearly. Their farm is incredibly diverse, from soybeans and alfalfa to sweet corn, cabbage, and green beans. They cultivate nearly 16 acres of strawberries and 10 acres of certified organic blueberries, inviting the public to enjoy U-pick experiences during harvest season. They also grow 800 acres of potatoes, 150 of which are certified organic. In their greenhouses, they grow hydroponic cherry, cluster, beefsteak tomatoes, English cucumbers, and peppers.
Their produce is sold locally and at regional farmers’ markets—including Madison, Portage, Baraboo, and Plover. Adam grew up selling vegetables at roadside stands with his parents, Lee and Cheryl Flyte, and now manages three of the family’s 13 stands with Carrie. His brother, J.R., manages their parents’ original farm just down the road. Alongside their extended family—J.R. and Kristen, Lee and Cheryl, and sister Jessica and her family—the family works together with a shared passion.
Growing a Legacy
In 2013, they launched Flyte’s Fieldstones, part of the Flyte Family Farms network in Coloma, Wisconsin, where they host their annual fall festival and country weddings.
